Starring Carole Lombard and William Powell
Written By Morrie Ryskind and Eric Hatch from his novel
Directed by Gregory LaCava
1936
Estimated budget, $656,000
Comedy - Carole Lombard plays a ditzy socialite with a heart of gold who discovers Godfrey, a "forgotten man" (William Powell) in a scavenger hunt. Godfrey is taken in as the family butler. Screwball comedy at it's best!

Production Notes

Morrie Ryskind, who wrote the screenplay would improvise dialogue on the set with the actors and the director.

Director Gregory Lacava (who's background was in animation) had a disagreement with William Powell over how Powell's character Godfrey should be played. The two settled things over a bottle of Scotch whiskey. The next day, Powell was unable to show up for work on the set.

Carole Lombard kept things interesting during production. When she didn't like her dialogue or something about a scene, she would lace her dialogue with four-letter words. Of course the director had to yell "cut" and the cast and crew had a good laugh.

Carole Lombard's roll of "Irene" was originally slated to be played by Constance Bennett and then Miriam Hopkins.
